From my Journal, 1.1.96 to 1.9.96

January 1, 1996:  Mark and I celebrated New Year’s Eve by hitch-hiking across Rhode Island to visit Liam, who was working the late shift at the Mobil in Park Square.  That’s Narragansett to North Smithfield.  It took four car rides from four different drivers:

  1. a 20-year-old fat girl from CCRI who lives in Narragansett, on her way to a party.
  2. Doug Doom and his upset girlfriend.
  3. A police officer who checked the backseat after he dropped us off at Bickford’s.
  4. Tom, 20 years old, dropped out of college, works at the mall, and tried to get us to give him an investment of $5,000.

January 2, 1996:  We rented three films:  two directed by Roger Corman, and “Topless Volleyball.”  According to my journal entry, “Topless Volleyball” was “the best of the batch.”  It was an hour of naked chicks playing volleyball and lounging by the pool.

January 3, 1996:  Liam got a big-ass tattoo on his leg of a naked chick and a martini glass and some flames and some bones and a sporty ’50s automobile.  It cost him $150.  He’s nuts.  I bought a Man…or a Astroman record.

January 4, 1996:  After receiving my first semester grades, my parents threatened to take me out of URI.  I got a 2.4 GPA.  I need to start filming stuff.  I found a place that sells Super8 film and another that can process it.  As soon as I get the cash, I plan on buying me some Super8 film.

January 5, 1996:  Liam and I drove to the Mobil station in North Smithfield so he could pick up his paycheck.  ”Killer” Aaron from Ulcer was working.  He, of course, had a famous Mooka quote about our couch:  ”It envelops you like a giant vagina.”

January 6, 1996:  Nate the Hippy has moved out.  Our drummer, Drummer John, might move in and take the hippy’s place but we haven’t heard from him in awhile.

January 7, 1996:  We’re expecting 24 inches of snow.  Mark, Liam, Jay, Kevin and I all sat around the Mooka House and did nothing.  That’s cool.

January 8, 1996:  Today and last night we got a whole crap load of snow….Liam, Mark, and I jumped out of the back of Jay’s pickup into huge snow banks while he drove home.  Liam and I also built a really awesome snow fort, complete with a tunnel….Me and Mark went to Stop-n-Steal and bought Coke and some Cookie Dough and an encyclopedia….The fort, it’s called Fort Dicks which is spray-painted in green on the snow wall.

January 9, 1996:  Jay Piette and I got tattoos.
